On 4 June 2009, Wellington City Council voted 11-4 to reroute buses through Manners Mall, one of the city’s few major pedestrian thoroughfares. While this simplifies the central bus corridor and realigns it to the traditional “Golden Mile”, the decision will inevitably result in the displacement of the area’s native inhabitants. This is a lament for the upcoming loss of their habitat, performed in the indigenous musical style.
