Manners Mall Emo Song

On 4 June 2009, Wellington City Council voted 11-4 to reroute buses through Manners Mall, one of the city’s few major pedestrian thoroughfares. While this simplifies the central bus corridor and realigns it to the traditional “Golden Mile”, the decision will inevitably result in the displacement of the area’s native inhabitants. This is a lament for the upcoming loss of their habitat, performed in the indigenous musical style.

As I understand it, buses will travel the whole length of Manners St both ways, from the end of Courtenay Place to the intersection of Manners & Willis Sts. Dixon St and Lower Cuba St won’t be used for buses at all.

Restoration of the Wellington CBD’s main public transport artery is vital for a sustainable future.
We can have our cake and eat it too by restoring public transport to Manners Mall, with no loss of people space, by extending Cuba Mall.
Cuba Street is sunnier, funkier and more people friendly than Manners Mall, which has become a desolate, cold hole.
Replace Manners Mall with an extension to Cuba Mall and have the best of both worlds!
