How to snuff out someone’s bad manners by your good manners?

For example- when a waitress comments (like "WOW! You must have been hungry!" Loudly, proclaiming to the rest of the diner) on your healthy appetite, instead of saying something rude in return, saying something like "My compliments to the chef!"
What are other ways to snuff out other bad manners? Like when someone comments on certain things. Anyone have personal experiences you’d like to share or tips? I thought this was a good way to show some kindness to people, instead rude sarcasm which I can always quickly cook up. Thanks, and God bless!

Personally, I like to point their rudeness out…say something like, "Why on earth would you ask such a personal question?"
Or, "Do you really feel that is any of YOIUR business?"
Or even, "Gracious, what a rude question/remark!"

Bring a glove with you wherever you go. When someone says something rude to you, glare angrily at them and slap them in the face with the glove and say "How dare you! I challenge you to a duel sir/madam!"

Oh why do they do that? I’ve always had a problem with waitresses, even ones who make sarcastic remarks to other diners that I’m using the cutlery wrong. I don’t be polite though … I just use some acid remark like "Well, I am from an uncultured city. Sorry if I offended your sensibilities waitress."

Although, sometimes I do retaliate with niceness … a good "My most sincere and humblest apologies" to some rude remark always seems to work.

When the waitress says "you must have been hungry" I say "you are embarrassing me." Don’t play games, don’t rely on people to take a hint. Be pleasant but be direct. Rude sarcasm is stupid, and direct conversation will shoot them down permanently.
Saying "You are embarassing me" with a pleasant smile works on so many levels, not least that they scurry back to the kitchen wondering whether they just blew their tip.
