What is the email etiqutte for replying to say "thank you"?

May 16, 2010 - 3:16 pm 3 Comments

When you send someone an email, and they send their response back to you, is it proper etiquette to send one back to them saying simply "thank you". or is it seen as not necessary to get an email with just the words "thank you"?

I would respond in a full sentence, but yes, go ahead and send it … unless you know they are a very busy person.
Ex:
To so-and-so,

Thankyou very much for your help/this oppurtunity/or whatever. It was greatly appreciated.

Sincerely , xxxx

Etiqutte question. Is it rude to tell waiters to not take your plate without asking, EVER AGAIN to anyone?

May 13, 2010 - 7:05 am 4 Comments

They try to read your mind and assume that, just because you have very little food on your plate and have stopped eating for a brief moment, that you must be through eating. Why can’t they just ASK before taking your plate away? Is it wrong to let them know how RUDE this is, and to ask them to ever do this again to ANY PERSON? Am I an overly angry person to be so irritated by this?

No matter if the plate is empty, all servers and bussers should ask , "may I take your plate" it may sound stupid to some when the plate is completely empty though some people would rather you leave their plate if others at their table are still eating. Unfortunately, you will primarily receive proper treatment from fine dining establishments only. Without being rude you can let your server and busser know ahead of time, that you eat slowly and will push your plate out when finished. That way they do not continually come to your table and bother you and they have been notified of your preference. This way the server will be able to please you and won’t have to deal with the uncomfortableness of upsetting you.

What is proper business etiqutte when dealing with a sarcastic interviewer?

May 8, 2010 - 4:02 pm 7 Comments

My friend went on an interview. In the middle of the interview, my friend and the interviewer "got into it" (verbally). My friend told me that the interviewer got sarcastic with him when asking some questions and did not take his answers seriously. What is the best way to handle someone like this?

"Proper" would mean keeping your cool under pressure. Maybe the interviewer was pushing your friend’s buttons to see his tolerance level? If not, the point remains: it’s your friend who needs the job NOT the interviewer.

I wish him all the best on the NEXT interview. I guarantee this one’s a done deal.

I’m on my high school newspaper staff and I’ve been writing a etiquette column. I need an idea for this months article, but I can’t think of any! I would like it to relate to summer. Help?
