I don’t know about Emily Post – but I have always used Black Ink for something formal.

What is the difference between these 2 Emily Post books?

May 29, 2010 - 12:39 am 3 Comments

I’m confused as to what the difference is in these two books.

Two different editions/printings

The blue cover one (bottom) was published in 2004; it is the 17 edition, and it is also hardpack and thumb indexed (think dictionary sytle index).

The red cover is paperback published in 2007. I’m not sure the edition for it. It could be (an abridgement of) the original 1922 edition or it could be the 17th edition; however since it doesn’t list an edition, my guess is that it’s the original.

Why is Emily Post remembered today?

May 26, 2010 - 8:35 am 1 Comment

I would really appreciate it if you would help!!! :D

I think it is because she taught manners, but she did it in a cute, simple fashion. You aren’t bored to tears after reading one of her articles. Plus, she was one of the "founders" of late 20th and early 21st century manners.

Why has post-structuralist theory forsaken the work of Emily Dickinson?

May 22, 2010 - 10:24 pm 2 Comments

I may be a dolt, but I’m afraid I don’t understand "post-structualist theory". If you can explain it, I’d be happy to discuss Dickinson.

What is the "Emily Post’ protocol to address a letter to a woman after her spouse has died?

May 20, 2010 - 5:03 am 5 Comments

Do I write "Mrs. John H. Smith" or "Mrs. Sarah Smith"? Thanks-

You can address the letter Mrs. or Ms. Sarah Smith if you know which she prefers. If you don’t know the widow’s preference, Mrs. John H. Smith is the traditional and preferred form
